I do feel very fortunate to live so close to Big Spring Mill and have access to their lovely and fresh self-rising flour. I would not make biscuits with anything else and in fact, this weekend made approximately 60 for an event at work - you'll be reading about it from Bill Lohmann at the Richmond Times Dispatch soon. Happy Baking!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09311296020208620659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698815561975258169.post-91248614352401272622011-12-02T10:40:56.987-05:002011-12-02T10:40:56.987-05:00Hi there, I just had to comment when I saw your po...Hi there, I just had to comment when I saw your post. I googled Virginia's Best Self-Rising Flour and you popped up. The reason for the chuckle is that my Granny taught me to make "man catching biscuits" using this same recipe!

I am unable to get Elliston Flour (our name for it) where I live now, so whenever I travel back home, I stock up (25 pounds at a time!). Nothing else I've tried makes biscuits as light and fluffy (and delicious).

The cheese and green onion sound like fabulous additions to the recipe.

RachRachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09317328366288947798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698815561975258169.post-76226583186580226772011-02-15T18:53:51.158-05:002011-02-15T18:53:51.158-05:00Ya know, I always like day old biscuits sliced in ...Ya know, I always like day old biscuits sliced in half and covered inside and out with sweetened strawberries. (Actually, I like a fruit compote of strawberries and fresh, uncooked rubarb best.) Your recipe with cheese has inspired me to try another idea. Do the same thing but use fried apples (you know the kind where you saute chopped apples in butter with some brown sugar and cinnamon). I always loved a piece of cheddar cheese on top of a hot slice of apple pie. This should be similar but better:)Carol Lindstromnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698815561975258169.post-89628905485933065322011-02-15T15:22:28.459-05:002011-02-15T15:22:28.459-05:00Well if that didn't make my day!Well if that didn't make my day!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09311296020208620659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1698815561975258169.post-32840778246827736292011-02-15T13:11:31.414-05:002011-02-15T13:11:31.414-05:00If I weren't already hitched, I'd send you...If I weren't already hitched, I'd send you to pick out dresses!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
